Cancun Travel Guide

In January 2023, our little family of four took a trip to Cancun, Mexico. I have always been a beach lover and this destination had been on my list for quite a while.

We tried booking a vacation to Cancun back in August, 2022. However, my husband learnt that May to August is considered “hurricane season” in Cancun. We quickly changed our dates to January.

Booking an all inclusive vacation

Our experience with booking an all-inclusive vacation was great. We booked the vacation package from Swoop Airlines (www.flyswoop.com). The vacation package includes flights plus hotel. It costed us around 3000 CAD (Almost a steal deal)!!

Visas

If you are a Canadian citizen or a PR holder, you do not need a visa to visit Mexico.

Things to do

The resorts are pretty great to spend DAYS with their pools, food, and beaches. However, there are few things you can do near Cancun:

  • Plan a day trip to Isla Mujeres
  • Join a snorkelling excursion
  • Plan a day trip to Chichen Izra
  • Plan a day trip to Tulum ruins
  • Parasailing, jet skiing, and sailing

Mexico as a Muslim Traveller

If you are wondering what it is like to travel Mexico as a muslim, you should know that you will not find a lot of halal food options or many other Muslims, for that matter, in Mexico.

That said, I didn’t notice any racism issues. Everyone was friendly. A visible muslim might look and behave differently, and might feel a bit out of place in bar settings. That is pretty much it.
